Riparia-Ter Project opening conference

In 11th march an opening conference for the project Riparia-Ter took place in Girona. At the beginning of the act there was the public signature between Universtiat the Girona and Consorci Alba Ter for the scientific monitoring of the project.

The conference was held by the Doctor of Ecology, Francesc Sabater. It was called “The functions of the Mediterranean riparian forests”, and was focused on the role of the riparian forests over the Nitrogen fluctuations and in the alluvial and hydrological flows in Mediterranean rivers.

The most interesting points were how riparian forests uptake water from rivers during the dry season. It implies a different behavior for Mediterranean areas in comparison with temperate regions. They found also differences for the Nitrogen balance in dry regions where according the experience, the rate of Nitrogen that keep riparian forests is insignificant.
